inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near
shorelines and tidal waterways. For the High Surf Advisory,
large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet in the surf zone.
* WHERE...Eastern Currituck County.
* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Warning, until 6 AM EDT early
this morning. For the High Surf Advisory, until 6 PM EDT this
evening.
* IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result
in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and
businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be
around 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a
sufficient depth to close roads and threaten homes and
businesses. Erosion and damage to dune structures is expected.
Actions should be taken to protect property along the
immediate shoreline.

large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet in the surf zone.
* WHERE...Virginia Beach.
* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Warning, until 9 AM EDT this
morning. For the High Surf Advisory, until 6 PM EDT this
evening.
* IMPACTS...Moderate to major flooding will cause extensive
inundation and flooding of numerous roads and buildings
resulting in a significant threat to property and life. Water
will be 2 to 3 feet or more above ground level in some areas.
Moderate to severe flooding will extend inland from the
waterfront and shoreline flooding homes, businesses and
isolating some neighborhoods. Numerous roads will be
impassable under several feet of water and cars submerged.
Some areas may need to be evacuated. Erosion and damage to
dune structures will be possible. Actions should be taken to
protect property along the immediate shoreline.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR THE NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF
NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI AND NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI...
A moderate size, long period swell will reach Kauai and Oahu later
this evening and around midnight on Maui tonight. This swell
will produce advisory level surf along many north and west-facing
shores of the smaller islands by late Monday morning. The advisory
will be in effect from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon
to account for over double head high surf that should peak along
many north and west-facing shores early Tuesday.
* WHAT...Surf as high as 12 to 16 feet along north facing
shores....as high as 10 to 15 feet along west facing shores.
* WHERE...North and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and
Molokai. North facing shores of Maui.
* WHEN...From 6 AM Monday to 6 PM HST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Moderate. Strong breaking waves and strong currents
will make swimming dangerous.

* IMPACTS...Up to 2 to 4 feet of inundation above ground level is

will extend inland from the waterfront threatening some homes
and businesses. Numerous road closures and flooding of vehicles
will be possible, including portions of NC 12. Dangerous
swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip
currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into
deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The combination of strong onshore winds,
high astronomical tides, wave run up, and already battered and
weakened dune and other oceanside structures will bring the
potential of significant impacts to Hatteras Island, mostly
north of Cape Hatteras, with this afternoon's high tide, and
again tomorrow (Tuesday 10/14). Additionally, minor soundside
flooding is expected to begin later today and last through at
least Wednesday.

* WHAT....Nearshore waves 4 to 8 feet, with a wave period of 10
to 12 seconds. High rip current risk.
* WHERE...Coastal Hancock and Coastal Washington Counties.
* WHEN...From 8 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Rip currents and sneaker waves will lead to
dangerous beach conditions. Waves crashing against rocks can
splash violently upward and wash onlookers out to sea. Some
minor beach erosion is possible..

A High Surf Advisory Means That High Surf Will Affect Beaches In
The Advisory area...producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion. If you plan to be along the shoreline, keep your distance
from the water, and never turn your back on the ocean.
